Orbital Eclipse was a game created solely by myself for the #NoticeMe Game Jam run by Opera GX and Yoyo Games in 2022. Developers had a 2 week period to create a game destined for an arcade cabinet with the theme "Then the night changed everything". The below entry was my interpretation of that and can currently be played for free here.
Orbital Eclipse is essentially a dodge'em up, where the idea of the game is to keep a life raft in orbit for as long as you can.
You need to keep your fuel consumption to a minimum, which is achieved by staying as close as possible to the optimal orbit. Easier said than done though when stray debris will force you off course, while fuel canisters may also tempt you away to keep yourself in orbit longer.

The game is based around orbiting a planet and as a result features a light side and a dark side to the orbit. In keeping with the theme of the Game Jam, it's the night side of the planet where the special hazards come into play.
During each night phase, you may find yourself tackling aliens, asteroids, spatial anomalies or system malfunctions and it only gets harder with each orbit completed.

There are some helpful items though to aid you in keeping aloft - assuming you can sacrifice the fuel to get them. During your orbit, you may come across a super shield or a smartbomb pickup.
A super shield means you no longer lose fuel when colliding with an obstacle for a short period of time, while a smartbomb clears the screen of them.
